No ones opinion is wrong or right. No one can tell a person how to feel about a work and that really goes against the point. It is one of the few things in life that can be and mean whatever you want it to and no one will think twice about it.
Choose any medium that you want. You can even create your own. You can convey any message or feeling that you want. No matter if it is art on canvas or cement it is still relevant, it is still art, and the emotions that it evokes can remind you that you are still alive.
